<p>The class is HORT 94, AutoCAD for Landscape Applications, part of the Landscape Design certificate they offer.  The class starts January 20, every Friday from 12-5.  The three sections include topics on drafting site plans, planting plans and irrigation plans.</p>
<p>If you have some background in AutoCAD and you want to brush up on your skills, this would be a great class for you.</p>

<p>Please note that the Bay-Friendly Landscaping &amp; Gardening Coalition is in the process of making some minor adjustments to its requalification program in an effort to streamline the process and make it more user-friendly.  The new guidelines will take effect by the end of the year, and notices will be sent early next year to everyone whose qualification has lapsed or is nearing termination.</p>

<p>Popular presenter Dave Patterson of Target Specialty Products will speak again at the 2012 Sacramento Valley Landscape &amp; Nursery Expo. His topic will be “Safety in the Workplace – Handling Pesticides” and will touch on heat related work illness, safe handling of pesticides, the basics of chemical safety, storage, transportation and disposal, employee training, the evolution of our current laws and regulations plus many more important details concerning pesticide handling.</p>
<p>Dave is a sales representative for Target Specialty Products and a registered Pest Control Advisor. In addition to his work he is an ornamental horticulture professor at American River College. He is chairman of the 2012 Sacramento Valley Landscape &amp; Nursery Expo and a member of the event’s planning committee. He is a member of CLCA, the Western Chapter of International Society of Arboriculture, Pest Control Operators of Sacramento and Sports Turf Manager’s Association.</p>
<p>“Protecting Wildlife from Pesticide Impacts: A Historical Perspective” will be presented by Dept. of Fish and Game staff scientist Joel Trumbo. Mr. Trumbo will share a brief overview of the DFG’s Pesticide Investigative Unit as well as present the many responsibilities of the unit including assessment of pesticide hazards for fish and wildlife, overseeing DFG pesticide usage, investigative techniques of fish and wildlife loss, incident response training and enforcement of the law.</p>
<p>Joel Trumbo is a Staff Environmental Scientist for the Lands Program of the CA Dept. of Fish and Game. He has been DFG’s Pesticide Use Coordinator since 1991. He oversees DFG herbicide uses projects statewide, including invasive weed control projects. Additionally, he is frequently involved in projects related to assessing pesticide hazards to wildlife species. Joel has been a member of the California Weed Science Society since 1991 and is also involved in the California Invasive Plant Council. Joel is a graduate of the University of California, Davis, with a degree in Plant Science. He is a Sacramento native and an avid backpacker.</p>
<p>Marianne Waindle of Mauget will speak on “Invasive Pests: A Threat to CA Urban Forests?.” Her talk will include an introduction on the history and movement of invasive pests in the U.S. and how they arrived here. Ms. Waindle will highlight the past and current species of invasive pests in California. The talk will consider whether it is better to manage by quarantine or eradication highlighting knowledge based education, cultural, chemical and biological options.</p>
<p>Marianne Waindle is an industry professional for 30 years with an extensive background in applied IPM and pesticide development. She currently directs the R&amp;D program for Mauget and provides sales support for the western United States. She is also an ISA Certified Arborist and California Pest Control Advisor.</p>

<p>Join us at the Sacramento Valley Landscape &amp; Nursery Expo on January 18th from 8a.m. to 4p.m. in Halls D/E at the Sacramento Convention Center located at 13th and J Streets in Sacramento. <a href="http://click.icptrack.com/icp/relay.php?r=35429890&amp;msgid=1676889&amp;act=EVG4&amp;c=583241&amp;destination=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sacvalexpo.com%2F%20">Registration for the Expo is FREE and is open now</a>.</p>
